What actually arrives on the table

A serpme kahvalti is fifteen to twenty small plates: white cheese and kasar, black and green olives, tomato, cucumber, butter, honey with clotted kaymak, jams, eggs cooked in butter or as menemen, sometimes sucuk, and bread that keeps coming. It is a long, generous meal. Nutritionally it is also carbohydrate-heavy and lighter on protein than its size suggests, which matters more after some procedures than others.

After dental work: soft, lukewarm, no crust

For ten days after implants or extractions, the crust of a simit and the sesame on it are the two things to avoid, seeds lodge in a healing socket and hard crust loads the site. Scrambled eggs, yoghurt, white cheese, soft bread interior and honey are all fine. Everything lukewarm rather than hot for the first forty-eight hours, and Turkish tea waits until day three.

After bariatric surgery: almost none of it applies

A sleeve patient in the first month manages 60 to 90 ml at a sitting and needs 60 to 80 g of protein a day, so the plate is egg and cheese and nothing else, no bread, no honey, no jam. And no tea with the meal: fluids stop thirty minutes before eating and resume thirty minutes after, or the pouch empties and you eat far more than you should. Where to eat it, and what it costs

Breakfast houses around Sisli, Nisantasi and Besiktas charge roughly 350 to 600 lira per person for the full spread; a hotel buffet covers the same ground and is easier when you are sore. Van-style breakfast houses do the largest version. If you need plain food, ask for yumurta sade, plain eggs, no butter, no spice, and it is understood without any fuss.
