The sleeve turns the stomach into a narrow tube, which limits how much you can eat at one sitting. Just as important, the removed portion produces most of the body's ghrelin, the hormone that drives hunger, so appetite drops sharply in the first months.
Gastric BypassA bypass creates a small stomach pouch and connects it directly to the small intestine, so food skips part of the digestive tract. Beyond restriction, the hormonal change in the gut improves insulin sensitivity, which is why many type-2 diabetics reduce or stop medication within months, often before major weight loss.
Gastric BalloonThe balloon is passed through the mouth under light sedation and filled with saline, occupying part of the stomach so you feel full sooner.
