What The Design Actually Decides.
A Hollywood Smile is 16 to 20 crowns or veneers designed as a single unit. The design decides the incisal edge line, the width ratios between teeth, the midline against your face, and how much of the upper teeth show at rest.

The Midline: The Millimetres That Decide It.
The dental midline should sit with the centre of your face, not with the centre of your teeth as they currently are. A midline off by more than about two millimetres is picked up by almost everyone, even people who cannot say what is wrong.

A slight cant matters more than a slight shift: teeth that are level with the horizon read as correct, while teeth angled against the eye line read as wrong even when perfectly centred. This is why the design is checked with you upright and talking, not reclined.

If you want it brighter after seeing it, that is your informed decision and we will do it. The point is that the decision is made in daylight, on your own face, and not from a shade tab held up in a chair.
The Trial Smile: What To Check Before You Approve.
- Say a full sentence. Listen for whistling on S sounds, which means the palatal contour is too thick.
- Smile without being asked to. A held smile is not your smile.
- Check the edge line against your lower lip when you speak. It should follow the curve, not cut across it.
- Look at how much tooth shows at rest. Too much reads as artificial at every age.
- Take a photograph in daylight, outside, and look at it before you approve.
How Much Tooth Is Removed.
Zirconium crowns need light circumferential preparation. Laminate veneers need very little or none. Any clinic that grinds healthy teeth to pegs for a faster result is destroying tissue you will never get back. Ask to see preparation photographs of previous cases, not just after photographs.
