Will your dental insurance pay for treatment in Turkey?
Turkey sits outside the EU, so the cross-border care rules do not apply, yet private and supplementary dental policies often reimburse anyway, on paper terms.
The rule that catches most people out
The European cross-border healthcare route, and the prior authorisation forms that go with it, apply inside the European Union, the wider economic area and Switzerland. Turkey is outside all of them, so the mechanism that lets a French or German patient claim planned treatment in Spain does not exist here. The European health card covers emergencies while you happen to be travelling and never covers treatment you flew for on purpose.
Where reimbursement genuinely happens
Private and supplementary dental cover is a different matter. Many German supplementary policies, Dutch additional packages, French mutuelles and British private dental plans reimburse a percentage of costs worldwide, up to an annual ceiling. The condition is almost always procedural rather than geographic: the treatment plan with itemised costs must be submitted and approved before the work begins, not after you are home with a receipt.
The paperwork that gets claims paid
Claims are refused for missing detail far more often than for the country of treatment. What insurers want is an itemised invoice in English listing each tooth by its number, the procedure done on it, the date, the material used, the clinic licence and the treating dentist's name, plus proof of payment and before and after radiographs. Missing tooth numbers is the single most common reason a file comes back.
What we will not do with an invoice
We do not write invoices for treatment that was not carried out, and we do not inflate figures so that a percentage-based policy pays out more. Both are fraud, and both are traceable to the patient rather than the clinic. What we will do is issue the full documentation before you fly so your insurer can pre-approve it, on request through WhatsApp on +905402555055.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
Can you bill my insurer directly?
No. We are not contracted with foreign insurers, so you pay the clinic and claim afterwards. That is also why the pre-approval step matters: it tells you the reimbursable amount before you commit.
Does travel insurance cover complications after planned surgery?
Standard travel policies exclude anything arising from treatment you travelled for. Specific medical tourism complication cover exists and is worth buying separately; read what it says about revision surgery and about repatriation.
