Beard transplant: how patchy is too patchy to fix?
Almost any pattern can be improved, the limiting factor is scalp donor supply, not the beard itself.
Where the grafts come from
Beard grafts are taken from the back of the scalp, where texture and calibre are closest to facial hair. Cheek and jaw areas usually need 800-1,500 grafts; a full beard build from very sparse growth can reach 3,000.
Angle is everything
Facial hair grows almost flat against the skin, at a much sharper angle than scalp hair, and the direction changes across the jaw, chin and moustache. Grafts placed at scalp angles look implanted forever. This is the single most common giveaway of a poor beard transplant.
Healing and shaving
Tiny crusts on the face fall away in 7-10 days. Trimming is possible after two weeks, close shaving after about a month. Transplanted beard hair sheds like scalp grafts and regrows from month three.
Who is not a candidate
Active acne in the recipient area, unstable alopecia areata affecting the beard, or an already-depleted scalp donor from a previous hair transplant. All three are checked before we quote.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
Will transplanted beard hair grow at the same rate?
Yes, and it keeps the growth characteristics of donor hair, so regular trimming blends it with the rest.
