The belly button: the detail that gives away a tummy tuck
Your navel is not moved during a tummy tuck, a new opening is cut around it, and the shape of that opening is what makes the result look natural or operated.
Umbilicoplasty on its own
Not everyone needs an abdominoplasty. Pregnancy, weight change or an old hernia repair can leave a navel that is stretched wide, everted or hooded with loose skin, without any real excess skin on the abdomen itself. That is corrected as a standalone thirty to forty-five minute procedure under local anaesthesia, through incisions inside the rim of the navel, with a week of taped dressings and no time off work beyond the first day.
The scar, and where it hides
Because the incisions sit on the inner rim, the scar lies inside the funnel and is effectively invisible once healed. The complication to watch for is a hypertrophic ring, a raised, tight scar that narrows the opening, which is why we ask you to use silicone gel there for eight weeks. Keep the area dry, and skip swimming pools and the sea for three weeks; a moist navel is a slow-healing navel.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
Can an outie be turned into an innie?
Usually yes, if it is caused by stretched skin rather than an active hernia. If a hernia sits underneath, it has to be repaired at the same time, a cosmetic-only correction over a hernia will fail.
Is navel shaping included in a tummy tuck price?
Yes. Rebuilding the umbilicus is part of the operation, not an extra. A standalone umbilicoplasty is quoted separately because it is a different procedure.
