Stem cell hair therapy: what €600 can and cannot promise

What is sold as stem cell hair therapy is almost never cultured stem cells. It is your own blood concentrate, and that changes what it can honestly do.

What stem cell hair therapy actually is

What is sold under this name is almost never cultured stem cells. In our clinic, and in the large majority of licensed European ones, it is an autologous concentrate: your own blood processed for platelets and growth factors, sometimes combined with a micro-graft suspension or a mesotherapy cocktail. Cultured stem cell products for hair loss are not an approved routine treatment in the jurisdictions we work under, and we do not offer or import them.

What it can honestly do

The realistic effect is on hair that still exists: thicker shafts, a longer growth phase, less daily shedding, and a better environment around freshly transplanted grafts. Patients with early diffuse thinning, or with telogen shedding after illness, surgery or childbirth, gain the most. That is a real and measurable benefit for €600 across a course of sessions. But it is improvement of a living follicle, never creation of a new one.

What it cannot do, stated plainly

It will not regrow hair on skin that has been smooth for years. Once a follicle has fully miniaturised and the surrounding tissue has fibrosed there is nothing left to stimulate, and no injection changes that. It also does nothing about the hormonal driver of androgenetic loss, so used alone it slows a process rather than halting it. If a bald crown is the problem, a transplant is the honest answer.

How we decide whether to offer it to you

We measure with a trichoscope at consultation and count miniaturised against terminal hairs in the area worrying you. Where more than roughly half the follicles are still terminal, a course is worth the €600. Where they are not, we tell you to put the money into grafts instead. Every recommendation is written down before you travel, and you can send photographs to us on WhatsApp at +905402555055 first.

The Ones People Actually Ask.

Is stem cell therapy an alternative to finasteride?

No. They act on different things: one supports the follicle locally, the other reduces the hormone driving the loss. Patients who use both usually hold their hair longer than those who use either alone.

How soon would I know it is not working?

By month four. If shedding has not slowed and trichoscope calibre measurements are unchanged after three sessions, we stop rather than sell you a fourth.
