PRP around a hair transplant: the timing that pays off
Two sessions matter: the one on the day of surgery and the one at month three. Weekly injections through the first month add cost and no evidence.
When PRP around a transplant is worth paying for
The timing that helps is the session on the day of surgery and the one at month three; nearly everything else is optional. On the operating day the plasma is used to bathe extracted grafts and is injected into the recipient area, which addresses the ischaemic window every follicle passes through. The month-three session lands exactly as regrowth begins. Weekly injections through the first month add cost, discomfort and no evidence we are willing to charge for.
The one thing PRP does not do for a transplant
It does not rescue graft survival when the surgical fundamentals are wrong. Time outside the body, channel depth and angle, holding solution temperature and technician skill decide how many follicles live, and no injection compensates for a badly run theatre. We are blunt about this because PRP is frequently sold as insurance bundled onto a cheap transplant. Buy the good transplant first; the €600 course is a refinement placed on top of it.
Protecting the hair that was not transplanted
The stronger argument for combining is the native hair sitting between your grafts. Transplanted follicles are permanent and covered by our lifetime guarantee against falling out; the thinning hair around them is not, and it carries on miniaturising to its own timetable. A course maintained every four to six months, usually alongside medication, is what keeps the whole area looking consistent instead of leaving visible islands of transplanted density.
A realistic combined calendar
Day zero: PRP alongside the transplant. Month three: second session as shedding ends and regrowth starts. Month six: assessment with trichoscope photographs and a decision on whether to continue at all. Month twelve: the final result is judged and maintenance set at two or three sessions a year if your native hair needs it. DHI is €2,300 and the therapy course €600, quoted separately so you can decline either.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
Does PRP on the day of surgery raise the transplant price?
It is a separate line on the quote, not a hidden addition. The transplant package stands on its own, and you can have the surgery without any therapy course at all.
Can I have PRP if my transplant was done at another clinic?
Yes, and it is a common request. We ask for the operation report or at least the date and graft count, then examine the donor and recipient areas before agreeing a course.
