Designing a female hairline: why the male template fails
A rounder shape, temples that close forward instead of receding, and hair implanted almost flat. Get the angle wrong and no amount of styling will hide it.
A different shape, not simply a lower one
A male hairline is drawn with a defined mid-frontal point and receding temporal corners. Copy that onto a woman and the face reads as masculine even when nobody can explain why. A female hairline is rounder, closes forward at the temples rather than retreating from them, and usually sits five and a half to six and a half centimetres above the glabella, against seven to eight centimetres in men. Shape comes before height.
Temple points give the work away
Temporal points are where transplanted female hairlines most often fail. In women they sit lower, extend further forward, and the hair inside them lies almost flat against the skin, implanted at ten to twenty degrees rather than the forty-five used across the frontal zone. Get that angle wrong and the hair stands up in a way no styling corrects. This is slow, single-graft work and it cannot be rushed.
Irregularity is the whole point
Nothing looks less natural than a straight line. The first two or three rows are single-hair grafts placed along a deliberately irregular, softly scalloped edge, with density building gradually behind them. Where possible we copy small asymmetries from your own childhood photographs, including a widow's peak if you had one. The hairline people notice in a room is always the one that is perfectly even.
Grafts, technique and the honest precondition
Reshaping a frontal line and temples usually takes 1,500 to 2,500 grafts, done as unshaven DHI so you can return to work without explaining anything. Before any of that we ask for ferritin, a thyroid panel and vitamin D, because diffuse female shedding has a medical cause often enough that operating first would waste both your grafts and your money.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
Will you have to shave my head?
In almost all female cases, no. A narrow donor strip is trimmed and stays hidden beneath the hair above it, which is why the session runs longer and is capped at fewer grafts per day.
Can a transplant fix thinning across my whole scalp?
No. Diffuse thinning usually means the donor is thinning too, and moving hair from one thin area into another gains nothing. That case needs medical treatment, not surgery.
