Fat transfer to the breast or implants? An honest look
Fat adds roughly half a cup size per session and nothing more; an implant adds whatever you choose in one operation. The goal decides, not the marketing.
What each one can realistically add
Fat transfer adds roughly half a cup size per session and no more, because there is a limit to how much fat a breast can be given before the blood supply cannot reach it. An implant adds whatever volume you choose in one operation. If your goal is a modest, natural improvement in shape and you have donor fat on the abdomen or thighs, fat is a genuine option. If you want two cup sizes, it is not.
The trade you are actually making
Fat gives you no foreign material, no capsular contracture, no implant card and a second area of the body slimmed at the same time. What it costs you is predictability: part of the graft is reabsorbed, the final volume is known only at month six, and a second session is common. It also behaves like the rest of your fat, so significant weight loss later reduces the breast again. Implants are predictable and permanent, and carry their own set of long-term issues.
Who we turn down for breast fat transfer
Very slim women are the group most likely to want this and least able to have it, because there has to be enough donor fat to harvest in the first place, realistically a body mass index above about twenty. We also decline anyone who cannot commit to breast imaging follow-up, and we do not use fat grafting to correct significant sagging, because it adds volume without moving the nipple. Those cases need a lift, not an injection.
Prices, sessions and imaging afterwards
Fat transfer starts at €2,400 and breast aesthetics with implants at €3,500, so two fat sessions cost more than one implant operation, a comparison we make openly rather than quoting only the first figure. Grafted fat can form small calcifications or oil cysts that a radiologist must be told about, so keep your operation report and hand it over at every mammogram. Modern radiologists distinguish these from suspicious findings reliably when they know the history.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
How many fat transfer sessions are needed to go up one cup size?
Usually two, spaced at least six months apart so the first graft has fully settled before the second is planned. Anyone offering a full cup size increase from a single session is describing the day-two swelling rather than the result at month six.
Does fat transfer to the breast interfere with mammogram screening?
Not when the radiologist knows it was done. Grafted fat can produce oil cysts and small calcifications with a characteristic appearance that an experienced radiologist reads correctly. Carry your operation report to every screening appointment, and continue screening on the normal schedule for your age.
