Beyond Istanbul: day trips worth saving for your second visit
Buyukada fits around a first trip; the thermal baths of Bursa and a Cappadocia balloon do not, the medical reasons, and the timing that actually works.
Why the first trip is not the trip for this
Your first visit has a shape: consultation, procedure, then wound checks on specific days that we do not move. A day trip means six to twelve hours away from the city, often on a road that is not smooth, and a missed check that only matters when something is going wrong. Save the excursions for the second visit, when the only appointment is a review.
Princes Islands: the one that fits the first visit
Buyukada is sixty to ninety minutes by ferry from Kabatas or Eminonu, and it is the rare Istanbul day out that asks nothing of your body. No private cars on the island, electric shuttles instead of the old horse carriages, and a flat coastal road you can walk as far as you feel like and no further. Half a day, sea air, and you are back for a check the next morning.
Bursa: two and a half hours, and one warning
The fast ferry to Yalova plus a bus reaches Bursa in about two and a half hours, Ottoman mosques, the covered silk market, and a cable car up Uludag. The warning is the thermal baths the city is famous for: they are hammams with hotter water, and the same waiting periods apply. Six weeks after body surgery, thirty days after a transplant, no exceptions because the water is medicinal.
Cappadocia, Ephesus, Pamukkale: fly, and go later
All three are an hour and a quarter by plane and genuinely worth a separate trip three to six months after treatment. Two specifics: a balloon flight lands with a real jolt and involves altitude change, so give a rhinoplasty six weeks minimum and ask us first. And the travertines at Pamukkale are walked barefoot on wet stone, which is a poor idea while your balance is still adjusting after major surgery.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
Can I take a domestic flight two days after a hair transplant?
Yes. A short flight is not a problem for grafts; the cabin is dry, so drink water and do not let anything touch your head, including the seat back.
When is a hot-air balloon safe after rhinoplasty?
Six weeks at the earliest, and only after we have seen you. The pressure change and the landing impact are both real, and there is no reason to test them early.
