LASIK corrects vision by reshaping the cornea, the clear front window of the eye. The surgeon lifts a thin corneal flap, an excimer laser removes a precisely calculated amount of tissue so light focuses on the retina, and the flap is laid back without stitches.
Cataract SurgeryA cataract is the gradual clouding of the eye's natural lens, which scatters light and dulls colour and contrast. Surgery removes it: through an incision of around two millimetres, ultrasound breaks the lens into fragments that are gently suctioned away, and a folded intraocular lens is placed inside the original capsule, where it unfolds and stays.
Smart LensSmart lens surgery, also called refractive lens exchange, uses the same technique as cataract surgery on a lens that is still clear. The natural lens is removed through a small incision and replaced with a premium multifocal or extended-depth-of-focus implant that splits light into near, intermediate and distance focus.
Keratoconus TreatmentIn keratoconus the cornea thins and bulges into a cone, so vision becomes distorted and glasses stop helping. Cross-linking treats the cause: riboflavin drops soak into the cornea and controlled ultraviolet light triggers new bonds between collagen fibres, stiffening the tissue and halting progression in most eyes.

Vision after lens surgery improves in a day or two but can fluctuate for a couple of weeks while the eye settles. Cross-linking leaves the surface sore for two to three days.
