The Foundation Everything Else Sits On.
Healthy gums decide whether crowns, veneers and implants last. Untreated periodontitis is the main reason implants fail years later, which is why we treat the gums before we place anything.
What The Numbers Being Called Out Mean.
The probe measures how deep the space between gum and tooth extends before the attachment stops it, and the reading is taken at six points around every tooth. That is why the examination sounds like a long recitation of numbers.
- 1-3 mm is healthy.
- 4-5 mm indicates early disease.
- 6 mm and over indicates established periodontitis with bone loss.
A single deep reading is a local problem. Deep readings throughout the mouth are a disease.
Why Bleeding Matters More Than Depth.
A four-millimetre pocket that does not bleed when probed is stable and may need nothing beyond better cleaning. A three-millimetre pocket that bleeds every single time is actively inflamed and will get deeper.
Bleeding on probing is the marker of current activity. The percentage of sites that bleed is a better guide to whether your home cleaning is working than any individual depth figure. Ask for that percentage as well as the depths.
What Treatment Actually Changes.
Non-surgical debridement, cleaning the root surfaces under local anaesthesia, typically reduces a five to six millimetre pocket by one to two millimetres and stops the bleeding. Pockets deeper than six millimetres often need surgical access to be cleaned properly.
Why We Treat Gums Before Touching An Implant.
The bacteria that destroyed bone around your teeth will do the same around an implant, and an implant has no periodontal ligament to defend itself with. Peri-implantitis is harder to treat than gum disease around a natural tooth and much harder to reverse.
So we decline to place implants in a mouth with active periodontitis. It is not caution for its own sake: it is the difference between an implant that lasts twenty years and one that loosens in five.
Cost, And The Part That Is On You.
Gum treatment starts at €250 for the course. What determines whether it holds is the recall interval afterwards.
Without a professional clean every three to four months and genuinely effective interdental cleaning at home, pockets return to their previous depths within about a year. That is not a threat; it is what the measurements do. Where a gummy smile is the concern rather than disease, a small contouring procedure re-establishes proportion, and the frame around the teeth often matters more to the result than the teeth themselves.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
How much does a dental implant cost in Istanbul, Turkey?
At Swedish Clinic a German-made dental implant in Istanbul starts from €299, and our current campaign is Buy 3, Pay 2. The same implant brand typically costs €1,500-€2,500 per tooth in Western Europe and the UK. Your free pre-consultation gives you an exact, all-inclusive quote with no hidden fees.
Is zirconium crown treatment expensive in Turkey?
No, monolithic zirconium crowns in Istanbul start from €180 per tooth, roughly one fifth of UK and German prices. Zirconium is metal-free, does not create a grey gum line and is the material we recommend for most Hollywood Smile cases.
How are dental implant treatments done in Turkey?
Treatment begins with a 3D CT scan and digital planning. Implants are placed by a specialist dentist under local anaesthesia in a single session, then the jaw heals for 2-3 months before the permanent crown. Simple cases are completed in one 3-5 day visit in Istanbul and All-on-4 full arches in 4-6 days, with the final fitting on your second trip or via a temporary bridge.
Why are dental implants cheaper in Turkey than in Europe?
Lower running costs, favourable exchange rates and high patient volume, not lower quality. We use the same German-made implant systems and CAD/CAM zirconium as European clinics, in an internationally accredited hospital with a Turkish Ministry of Health tourism licence.
How many days do I need to stay in Istanbul for dental implants?
Plan 3-5 days for implant placement, 4-6 days for an All-on-4 full arch and 5-7 days for a zirconium smile makeover or veneers. Recovery is 2-3 days with no pain for most patients, and treatment is outpatient, no hospital stay. We help with airport transfers, a translator and your hotel so the trip is easy.
Are dental clinics in Turkey safe and accredited?
Ours is. Swedish Clinic holds Temos international accreditation for both dental and medical care, works under a Health Tourism Authorisation Certificate issued by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health, and operates an ISO 9001 (UKAS) certified management system. Every implant is placed by a licensed specialist dentist, never a technician.
Does getting a dental implant hurt?
No. Placement is performed under local anaesthesia, so you feel nothing during the procedure. Most patients describe only mild discomfort for a day or two afterwards, easily managed with standard painkillers.
How long do dental implants and zirconium crowns last?
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, titanium implants can last a lifetime, which is why we back them with a lifetime warranty. Zirconium crowns typically last 15-20 years before they may need renewal.
Do you help with hotel, transfers and translation?
Yes. We arrange VIP airport transfers, a translator in your language and help with hotel booking, so you can focus entirely on your treatment, and enjoy Istanbul between appointments.
