Thigh lift: what the scar buys you and what it does not
A crescent lift tightens the top of the thigh; a vertical one tightens all of it and leaves a scar to the knee. Stable weight decides when either is worth doing.
Why stable weight comes before the scalpel
Inner thigh skin is thin, mobile and under constant tension from walking. If you lose ten kilos afterwards the skin loosens again and the scar widens as it stretches. We ask for six months at a stable weight, and for bariatric patients that usually means waiting twelve to eighteen months after surgery, with protein and iron levels checked first. Operating early on a body that is still shrinking is the commonest reason thigh lifts need redoing.
The complications specific to this area
The inner thigh is warm, moist, mobile and close to lymphatic channels, so it behaves differently from an abdomen. Wound edge separation at the groin is common enough that we warn everyone about it; it usually heals with dressings over three to six weeks. Seroma and temporary swelling of the lower leg from disturbed lymphatic drainage also occur. None of these are unusual events. They are the known price of operating in this location.
Recovery in real numbers
You walk the same day, but in short distances. A compression garment goes on immediately and stays for six weeks, day and night for the first three. Desk work at ten to fourteen days, driving at two weeks, no gym for six weeks and no sitting on hard surfaces for the first fortnight. Swelling fluctuates for about three months. Most international patients stay in Istanbul seven to ten days before flying home.
The Ones People Actually Ask.
Will the scar show in underwear?
The crescent version hides in the groin crease. The vertical scar runs down the inner thigh where the legs touch, not visible standing with your legs together, but visible in a swimsuit from the side.
Can liposuction alone tighten my thighs?
Only if the skin snaps back on the pinch test. Suction on inelastic inner thigh skin reliably makes the sagging worse; this is the area where that mistake is least forgiving.
