Revision surgery: when to wait and when to act

Most disappointment at three months resolves by twelve. The exceptions are functional problems, which should never wait.

The twelve-month rule

Tissue is still remodelling for a year after most procedures. Operating into swelling and immature scar tissue produces worse results and more scarring. Nearly every surgeon insists on twelve months for aesthetic revisions — including the surgeon who did the first operation.

What should not wait

Breathing obstruction after rhinoplasty, an implant that has clearly displaced, a wound that is not healing, or infection. These are functional or safety issues and are assessed immediately.

Who should do it

Ideally the original surgeon, who knows what was done. If trust has broken down, bring the operative report — a revision surgeon working blind is at a real disadvantage, and the report is your property.

What revisions cost here

Where a revision is needed due to a complication of our own work, we cover the surgical fee. Revisions of another clinic's surgery are quoted individually because the difficulty varies enormously.

Revision surgery: when to wait and when to act

Usually yes — scar tissue changes the anatomy — which is why choosing carefully the first time matters more than the price difference.
