After an eyebrow transplant: trimming, taming, the first year

How often will you need to trim them?

Transplanted eyebrows are scalp hair and keep the scalp growth cycle, which means roughly one trim every two to four weeks for the rest of your life. That is the single fact patients most often discover too late. Growth does slow over the first two or three years as the follicles partially adapt to their new site, but it never stops entirely, so the maintenance is permanent. It takes about a minute with small scissors.

The first month, step by step

Grafts sit exposed on the face, so aftercare is stricter than on a scalp. No water on the brows for forty-eight hours, then gentle dabbing with sterile saline; crusts are softened, never picked, and clear by around day ten. Sleep on your back for the first three nights. Sunglasses that rest on the brow, swimming and steam rooms wait two weeks, and any makeup or brow pencil over the area waits three.

Shedding, regrowth and when to judge

Almost every transplanted brow hair falls out between week two and week six, and the brow briefly looks thinner than it did before surgery. Patients who were not warned find this alarming. Regrowth starts around month three, the shape becomes readable at month six, and final density and direction are assessed at month twelve. We photograph you at the same distance and lighting at each stage so the comparison stays honest rather than flattering.

Training the direction, and touch-ups

For the first six months, comb the brow into its intended direction each morning with a spoolie and a trace of clear brow gel; hairs trained early tend to keep lying correctly afterwards. If a small area is still thin at twelve months, a touch-up of fifty to a hundred grafts is done under local anaesthesia in under an hour.
