You are not buying new hair. You are moving a finite number of follicles from the back of your head to the front, once, and the whole plan turns on how many there are and how they are spent.
The safe donor zone is a horseshoe band across the back and sides of the head, typically six to eight centimetres tall, where follicles are not sensitive to DHT. Its upper border sits below the point where the skull curves inward; its lower border sits above the nape, where hair thins with age.
Grafts taken above that upper border may be programmed to fall out later, which is how a result that looked good at thirty thins at fifty. We harvest inside those lines, and the lifetime guarantee exists because of it.
Three readings are taken before anything is shaved: follicular density per square centimetre, the average number of hairs in each unit, and how much miniaturisation is already present among the donor hairs. Miniaturisation matters most. A donor that looks dense but holds many thin, shortened hairs is already under hormonal pressure and will not tolerate a hard harvest. We measure with the hair combed to its natural parting, because a clipped head hides both the whorl and the thinning.
A donor with around eighty follicular units per square centimetre across roughly 120 to 160 square centimetres of safe zone holds about ten thousand units. Taking a quarter to a third gives 2,500 to 3,300 in a first session and leaves a similar reserve for later. Those figures collapse quickly with fine hair, low density or a narrow band.
That is why two people with identical hairlines get different plans, and why a graft number quoted from one phone photograph is a guess. The typical ranges below are starting points, not promises.
Four to five thousand grafts is the realistic upper limit for a single operating day, and most people are well served far below it. The constraint is not surgeon stamina: extraction beyond that number begins to thin the donor visibly, and the grafts taken first wait too long before they are placed.
Watch the counting.A follicular unit is a natural cluster of one to four hairs, and the unit is what we extract, count and quote. Some advertising quotes hairs instead. A four thousand graft session typically transfers eight to nine thousand hairs, so a clinic promising eight thousand grafts may simply be restating the hair count of a much smaller procedure. Ask in writing which number you are being sold before comparing two prices.
If your donor cannot cover both the hairline and the crown, we say so and build the hairline first, because the frame of the face returns more visible benefit per graft than the crown does. The crown is a spiral that absorbs grafts and can keep receding underneath a transplant.
Turning down a larger session is not caution for its own sake. A dense donor may yield six to seven thousand lifetime grafts across two sessions; a fine one with a narrow safe zone may hold three and a half thousand in total. Spending all of it on one hairline at twenty-eight cannot be undone at forty-five.
Most patients need between 2,500 and 4,500 grafts. A receding hairline usually takes 2,000-3,000; hairline plus crown 3,500-4,500. The exact number depends on your donor density and the area to be covered. Send two photos and our specialists give you a graft plan free of charge.
Sapphire FUE opens micro-channels with sapphire blades, then places grafts. It covers large areas densely in one session and is the standard choice for most male cases. DHI Choi implants each follicle directly with a pen, giving maximum control of angle and depth; it suits hairline detail, women’s cases and unshaven treatment.
Yes, when it is done in a licensed hospital by a specialist team. Swedish Clinic holds Temos international accreditation and a Health Tourism Authorisation Certificate from the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health. Transplanted follicles come from the permanent donor zone, so they keep growing for life. We back this with a lifetime growth guarantee.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. You are awake, comfortable and can watch a film or talk with the team. Only the first injections are felt. Most patients describe mild tightness for two or three days afterwards, managed with simple painkillers.
Transplanted hairs shed in weeks 2-6. This is normal. New growth starts around month 3, becomes visible at months 6-8, and the final density arrives at 12-15 months. Every before/after photo on this page was taken 9-15 months after the operation.
Plan 3 days: arrival and analysis on day one, the operation on day two, the first wash and aftercare briefing on day three. The operation itself is outpatient, no hospital stay, and you can fly home the same evening on day three.
Lower running costs, favourable exchange rates and very high volume, not lower quality. Our surgeons perform hair transplants daily, use the same sapphire blades and Choi implanters as European clinics, and work under international accreditation.
Yes. VIP airport transfers, a translator in your language and help with hotel booking are included, so you can focus on the treatment, and enjoy Istanbul between appointments.
Beginning, middle and end of one twelve-month course. The middle frame is the one that is normally left out.

The full twelve-frame sequence, including the weeks he looked worse than before he started, is on the hair page.
Your country code fills itself in. A surgeon reads them and replies with what is realistic, including when the answer is no.
